SUMMARY:The Sound of Music – Youth Edition presented by Jacksonville High School Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Jacksonville High School Theatre Presents:The Sound of Music: Youth Edition!\nThe Sound of Music: Youth Edition is an adapted hour-long version of the beloved classic musical that follows the journey of Maria, a spirited young woman who becomes a governess for the seven children of Captain Von Trapp. They come together to navigate the challenges of family, love, and the dangers of World War II. It is a heartwarming story of hope, resilience, that showcases the power of music. In honor of the 60th anniversary of The Sound of Music, we have been hard at work to bring this beloved classic to life!\nThe origins of The Sound of Music start where the musical does, at Nonnberg Abbey in Salzburg, Austria. There, a headstrong young woman named Amria Kutschera was in the process of becoming a nun when she was sent to become a governess for the sick child of a local widowed navy Captain, The Baron Georg von Trapp. Maria grew to love the Captain and his seven children, and they all became a family, soon adding three more children. The timeless story turned into a. best-selling book titled “The Story of The Trapp Family Singers”, written by Maria herself. The book was the source of two popular movies in German-speaking Europe.\nThe story was adapted first as a Broadway show, and then in 1965 as an Oscar-winning film. A theatrical dream team came on board to write the show: Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse would write the script, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, who had already written smash hits like Oklahoma! and South Pacific, contributed the music and lyrics. They made some changes, but the heart and soul of the story are still left intact to this day.\nJoin us at the JSU Stone Center:\nFriday, May 9th – 6:30 PM\nSaturday, May 10th – 6:30 PM\nSunday, May 11th – 2:00 PM\nTickets may be purchased at: ( https://www.onthestage.tickets/show/jacksonville-high-school-theatre-and-choir/67f5c00c14cbbb0f07043781/ )\nhttps://www.onthestage.tickets/show/jacksonville-high-school-theatre-and-choir/67f5c00c14cbbb0f07043781/ ( https://www.onthestage.tickets/show/jacksonville-high-school-theatre-and-choir/67f5c00c14cbbb0f07043781/ )\nJacksonville High School Theatre Department was created 30 years ago, but our department has truly blossomed this year.
