MONTGOMERY, AL — Governor Kay Ivey shared heartfelt news Friday regarding the passing of Alabama’s First Dog, Missy Ivey. A beloved companion and familiar face at the Governor’s Mansion, Missy passed away at approximately 10 years old. Missy, a blended collie mix, was adopted by Governor Ivey from the Montgomery Humane Shelter in January 2019. From the moment she joined the governor’s family, Missy became a loyal and constant companion. Whether Governor Ivey was working in her office, hosting guests in the courtyard, sharing meals, or enjoying peaceful moments on the lake aboard her pontoon boat, Missy was always by her side. “Missy was a great friend. After the best days and the hardest ones, it was always so good to return to the Governor’s Mansion and be greeted by Missy. She really made it feel like home, and I will miss her dearly,” Governor Ivey said. “Missy lived a great life. There is nothing quite like the love from our pets.” Blackberry Hill Summer Camp Governor Ivey expressed deep gratitude to the staff of Montgomery Veterinary Associates, who provided Missy with dedicated care and comfort during her final days. She also encouraged Alabama families to treasure the bond they share with their own pets, especially during times of loss. Missy’s presence at the Governor’s Mansion and her visible bond with Governor Ivey made her a cherished figure among staff, guests, and the public alike.
