Montgomery, AL — Governor Kay Ivey on Tuesday signed Senate Joint Resolution 63, reaffirming Alabama’s strong bipartisan support for the establishment of a permanent headquarters for the United States Space Command at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.
The resolution continues to encourage the President of the United States, the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of the Air Force to take immediate steps toward finalizing the selection of Redstone Arsenal as the command’s permanent location.
“Alabama Republicans and Democrats – along with the facts – agree the U.S. Space Command Headquarters belongs in Huntsville, Alabama!” Governor Ivey said in a public statement following the signing.
Redstone Arsenal was announced as the preferred location for the U.S. Space Command headquarters in 2021 after an extensive evaluation process conducted by the U.S. Air Force. However, the decision has since been subject to further review and debate at the federal level.
Proponents of the resolution point to Huntsville’s long-standing history with space and defense industries, citing the presence of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the Missile Defense Agency, and numerous aerospace contractors as key advantages.
Senate Joint Resolution 63 reflects Alabama’s continued effort to advocate for the decision to be finalized, emphasizing the state’s preparedness, infrastructure, and strategic value.
The measure passed with bipartisan support in the Alabama Legislature.
