Ohio Becomes Ninth State to Join Alabama’s Voter Integrity Initiative

Ohio Joins Secretary Wes Allen’s AVID Voter Integrity Program

Montgomery, AL –  Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen announced today that Ohio has joined the Alabama Voter Integrity Database (AVID), becoming the ninth state to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Alabama to improve voter file maintenance and prevent potential duplicate registrations across state lines.

The agreement allows for the cross-checking of voter registration data between Alabama and Ohio, aiming to identify individuals registered in both states. Alabama has previously entered into similar MOUs with its four border states—Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee—as well as with Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Texas.

“Maintaining the cleanest and most accurate voter file in the country is a top priority of my Office,” Allen stated. “This MOU provides for the comparison of the Alabama and Ohio voter files to identify individuals registered to vote in both states.”

According to Allen, if a potential duplicate or ineligible registration is identified through the AVID system, the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office will initiate the voter removal process in accordance with both state and federal law.

Allen expressed appreciation for the collaboration with Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and his office, stating, “Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and his team have been great partners throughout the process of drafting and executing this MOU. This MOU will result in a cleaner, more accurate voter file for both Alabamians and Ohioans alike.”

The AVID system, developed as an alternative to the now-defunct Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), is a key part of Alabama’s strategy to independently manage and update its voter rolls without reliance on third-party data-sharing organizations.

The addition of Ohio marks continued momentum for the AVID program as it seeks broader interstate collaboration on voter integrity efforts.
