MONTGOMERY, AL – Governor Kay Ivey announced Wednesday that more than $7.6 million in state funding is being allocated to support 26 road and bridge projects in cities and counties throughout Alabama. The funding is part of the Alabama Department of Transportation’s (ALDOT) Annual Grant Program under the Rebuild Alabama Act.
The grants represent the first round of infrastructure funding awarded in 2025 through this program. The Rebuild Alabama Act, passed by the Legislature and signed into law in 2019, mandates that ALDOT set aside at least $10 million annually from the state’s share of gasoline tax revenue to support local transportation projects.
Governor Ivey emphasized the role of infrastructure in economic development and public safety, stating, “Alabama is on the move, and through Rebuild Alabama, we’re laying the foundation for a stronger, safer future.” According to a recent national study, Alabama’s roads were ranked second-best in the country, a point the governor attributed to sustained investments in transportation infrastructure.
The 26 awarded projects include improvements such as resurfacing rural roads and widening heavily traveled highways. In addition to state funding, participating cities and counties have committed more than $5.6 million in local matching funds. All projects are required to begin within one year of receiving funds.
Since its inception, the Rebuild Alabama Act’s Annual Grant Program has awarded over $63 million to local governments for road and bridge improvements.
Additional rounds of funding are expected to be announced later this year. A full list of awarded projects and more information about the grant program is available on the ALDOT website at https://www.dot.state.al.us/programs/RAAGrantProgram.html.
