MONTGOMERY, AL – Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that Gregory Kirk, of Muscle Shoals, has pleaded guilty to a series of property crimes committed while working as a pool contractor in Madison County. Madison County Circuit Judge Ruth Ann Hall sentenced Kirk to a total of 20 years in prison as part of a plea agreement with the State.
Kirk was accused of defrauding multiple consumers by accepting payment for pool construction projects and failing to complete the work. In addition to theft, he was found to have forged a contractor’s license and a building permit, and to have fraudulently used a customer’s credit card.
He was indicted on 14 counts of first-degree theft of property, one count each of second-degree theft, criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, forgery in the second degree, and fraudulent use of a debit or credit card.
“Several consumers entrusted Kirk with large sums of money, hoping to build their dream pools. Instead, they were met with heartbreak,” said Attorney General Marshall. “He betrayed their trust, deceived them, and stole their hard-earned savings. Hopefully, those victims can find solace in the knowledge that he is finally being held accountable.”
As part of the plea deal, Kirk accepted sentences of 20 years for each first-degree theft charge and five years each for the remaining charges. All sentences will run concurrently.
The case was prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Consumer Interest Division with assistance from the Huntsville Police Department, the Madison Police Department, and the Madison County District Attorney’s Office.
