Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has announced a significant decline in both traffic and marine-related fatalities during the 2025 Memorial Day holiday weekend, reflecting progress in the Agency’s ongoing efforts to enhance public safety.
From Friday, May 23, through Monday, May 26, ALEA Troopers investigated three traffic-related fatalities—representing a 50% decrease compared to six reported during the same weekend in 2024. This year’s fatal crashes occurred in Pike, Morgan, and Bibb counties. Additionally, ALEA reported zero boating fatalities, a marked improvement over the one death recorded on Alabama waterways during the 2024 holiday.
While recognizing this progress, ALEA officials stress that any loss of life is tragic and avoidable.
The Memorial Day weekend also marked the kickoff of ALEA’s “101 Days of Summer Safety” campaign, which will run through Labor Day. The annual initiative aims to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities through a combination of high-visibility enforcement and safety messaging during the busy travel season.
Troopers also issued 104 warnings to non-residents operating boats without proper certification, 104 proximity law violation warnings, and five for wake sport violations, reflecting a proactive approach to enforcing new boating-safety laws.
“Our Troopers in both Highway Patrol and Marine Patrol will be out in full force across Alabama to ensure everyone gets to their destinations and return home safely,” Taylor added. “We urge all motorists and boaters to do their part by staying alert, obeying laws, and never operating a vehicle or vessel under the influence.”
ALEA extends its condolences to the families affected by this weekend’s fatalities and remains focused on promoting safer travel across the state throughout the summer.
