Cleburne County, AL – If you enjoy in ground plants and raised bed plants you will enjoy those same plants potted. When creating spaces that duplicate the same colors from one side of your yard to another side, use potted plants. Evaluate the repetitive plants you want to spread through out your landscape theme. Pot your favorite colors, textures and theme plants. Distribute those pots hidden into your landscape zones. Using potted plants help you determine if next year those pots are still expressing your theme in gardening design. If you change your mind, move the pot to a new location. I use these potted plants as some of my favorite eye catchers: bamboo, horsetail, larkspur, mandevilla, hibiscus, grasses, gladiolus, hostas, ferns, coleus, caladiums, etc. Keep in mind during the summer months you must keep these pots watered. Also if you use sensitive perennials they need stored indoors during the winter. Hardy plants based on your zone can survive & return every spring inside pots. Every spring I add extra mulch inside pots for moisture balance. I use fish fertilizer when watering weekly my pots to give a boost of energy. Marketing companies in landscape gardening have made available every giant and small pot you would need. Pots can be purchased as clay, plastic, metal, wood, etc. One last tip: place pots in the correct sun or shade area, to assure success.
