Senator Britt Co-Sponsors Resolution Honoring 101st Anniversary of U.S. Border Patrol

U.S. Senators Katie Britt, John Cornyn, Colleagues Introduce Resolution Honoring Border Patrol’s 101st Anniversary

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee, joined Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) and other Republican colleagues in introducing a Senate resolution recognizing the 101st anniversary of the United States Border Patrol.

The resolution commemorates the founding of the Border Patrol in 1924 and honors the agency’s ongoing efforts to safeguard the nation’s borders. It pays tribute to the men and women who have served in the agency for their dedication, service, and the personal risks they undertake in the line of duty.

“Whereas the U.S. Border Patrol’s highly trained and motivated personnel have been called upon to perform their duties 24 hours a day, 7 days a week… and have worked tirelessly as vigilant protectors of our Nation’s borders,” reads one excerpt from the resolution. It also acknowledges the 163 agents who have lost their lives in the line of duty and recognizes the agency’s role in countering illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and human trafficking.

Senator Britt emphasized her support for law enforcement and border security in a statement issued alongside the resolution. She highlighted the return of former President Donald Trump to the White House and praised his administration’s border enforcement policies.

“As Chairman of Homeland Appropriations, I remain deeply committed to working alongside our law enforcement officers and prioritizing strong border and interior immigration enforcement policies,” Britt said.

Senator Britt has introduced and supported several pieces of legislation related to border security and officer safety. Notably, she introduced the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act, which aims to make it a federal offense to flee from law enforcement officers during the performance of their duties. Additionally, her bill S.5, the Laken Riley Act, was the first legislation signed into law under the current administration. That bill includes provisions related to immigration enforcement and officer protection.
