Senator Katie Britt Reaffirms Support for Israel on Its 77th Independence Day, Co-Sponsors Legislation Targeting UN Funding

U.S. Senator Katie Britt Reaffirms Unwavering Support for Israel on 77th Day of Independence, Joins Colleagues in Effort to Combat UN’s Persecution of Israel 2

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) expressed strong support for Israel as the nation marked its 77th Independence Day, emphasizing the longstanding partnership between the United States and Israel. In a public statement, Britt congratulated Israel and reaffirmed her commitment to the bilateral relationship.

“May 1st marks 77 years since Israel declared independence, and I am humbled to take this opportunity to wish Israel and her people a very happy birthday,” Britt said. “The United States and Israel are connected by common values and shared interests, and the relationship our two nations have has never been more important.”

In conjunction with the celebration, Senator Britt joined Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and other Senate Republicans in reintroducing the Stand with Israel Act. The proposed legislation would prohibit U.S. taxpayer funding for United Nations agencies that expel, downgrade, suspend, or otherwise restrict Israel’s participation.

Citing what she called a “troubling pattern of anti-Israel sentiment” within various UN bodies, Britt stated, “Not a single dime of taxpayer money should be used to support or fuel antisemitism. It is imperative we use every tool in our toolbox to stand firm with the Jewish people and our great ally, Israel.”

Senator Risch echoed similar sentiments, stating that the legislation sends a message that U.S. financial support to international organizations should be contingent upon fair treatment of Israel.

This is not the first time Senator Britt has supported the Stand with Israel Act, having cosponsored the bill during the previous congressional session.

In addition to her legislative efforts regarding the United Nations, Senator Britt has also been active in addressing concerns related to Iran’s nuclear program. She recently joined a bipartisan resolution led by Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) that calls on the U.S., Israel, and allied nations to consider all available options in response to what they describe as a growing nuclear threat from Iran.

“Iran’s continued pursuit of nuclear weapons poses a clear threat to the U.S., Israel, and our allies,” Britt said. “Peace is achieved through strength, and our resolution sends an important bipartisan message to Iran that the U.S. will not tolerate Tehran’s aggression.”

Senator Britt has positioned support for Israel and opposition to antisemitism as central components of her foreign policy priorities. The measures she backs reflect ongoing concerns in Congress over regional stability in the Middle East and the role of international institutions in shaping foreign relations.
