Sylacauga Police Seek Public’s Help in Fatal Shooting Investigation

Sylacauga, AL — The Sylacauga Police Department is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday, May 11, 2025, and is seeking information from the public to identify the suspect or suspects involved.

At approximately 4:50 p.m., Talladega County E-911 received reports of gunfire near E. 5th Street in Sylacauga. Just minutes later, a second call reported a vehicle being shot into on Curran Street, off North Broadway Avenue. Officers arriving on the scene discovered two individuals had sustained gunshot wounds. Authorities determined that the shooting originated at the intersection of North Louisville Avenue and E. 5th Street.

Both victims were transported to Coosa Valley Medical Center. One of the victims, identified as Christopher Cornell Keith, was later transferred to UAB Hospital in Birmingham after undergoing surgery. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The second victim, identified as 29-year-old Sylavonta Dvon Mays of Sylacauga, was treated for gunshot wounds and subsequently released.

No arrests have been made at this time, and investigators continue to pursue leads. The Sylacauga Police Department is urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
