Virginia Becomes Tenth State to Join Alabama’s AVID Voter File Maintenance Program

MONTGOMERY, AL – Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen announced this week that the Commonwealth of Virginia has officially joined the Alabama Voter Integrity Database (AVID), becoming the tenth state to participate in the voter file maintenance program.

Virginia’s entry follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two states, which aims to enhance voter roll accuracy and bolster election integrity. AVID, developed by Alabama under Secretary Allen’s leadership, is designed to assist states in identifying and removing duplicate voter registrations across state lines.

“Alabama is extremely pleased to partner with Virginia and work to create cleaner and more accurate voter files for both of our states,” Allen stated in an official release. “This MOU officially brings Virginia on board with AVID, allowing both states to have cleaner voter rolls, which are the foundation of election security.”

Alabama previously established similar agreements with its four border states—Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Mississippi—as well as with Texas and Ohio. Virginia is the latest state to join the initiative, which Allen has promoted as a model for inter-state collaboration on election security.

Governor Kay Ivey recently signed legislation designating AVID as the state’s official voter file maintenance system. According to Allen, the AVID process has already led to the initiation of nearly 40,000 voter registration removals deemed ineligible, based on cross-state data comparisons.

Allen emphasized the importance of maintaining accurate voter rolls and credited teams from both Alabama and Virginia for their coordination. “Voter file maintenance is the foundation of election integrity. Ensuring that Alabama’s voter file is the cleanest and most accurate in the country has been a top priority of mine since day one,” he added.

Virginia’s Department of Elections and the Alabama Secretary of State’s office worked together to finalize the agreement, marking a continued expansion of AVID’s reach across the nation.
