PLEASANT VALLEY — Top-ranked Pleasant Valley showed why it’s top-ranked Pleasant Valley on the final day of the Class 2A, Area 13 tournament Tuesday.

The host Raiders beat Cedar Bluff 6-1 in an elimination game then swept two games with Sand Rock in the finals, 14-4 and 6-4, to claim the area title.

Pleasant Valley and Sand Rock earned berths in the East Regional, set for May 5-8 at Albertville.

The Raiders improved to 38-14, and their 38 victories marks a school record for the program’s fastpitch era.

Pleasant Valley fell into the area elimination bracket when Sand Rock scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning and went on to beat them 8-5 on Monday. That loss forced them to have to win three games Tuesday to win the area.

Haylie Lee’s two-hitter with four strikeouts helped the Raiders eliminate Cedar Bluff, and Lily Henry went 4-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Alexa Cranmer went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

That got Pleasant Valley to the finals, and Henry came up big in the first game against Sand Rock. The senior went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs.

Aubree Cromer went 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, and Ellie Patterson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. The Raiders got seven hits and four RBIs from the bottom of their order.

Cranmer went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.

That set up the winner-take-all second game with Sand Rock, and Henry came up big again. She went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs.

Cranmer went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs. and Patterson went 2-for-3 with a run.

Lee pitched seven innings, spreading out six hits with one strikeout.

Class 1A, Area 12

SPRING GARDEN ON TOP: Spring Garden cruised through its two games Tuesday, beating Coosa Christian 15-0 and Jacksonville Christian 15-0 in the finals.

The Panthers (16-11-2) and JCA advanced to the East Regional on May 5-8 at Albertville.

Maggie Jarrett and Lilly McCain homered against Coosa Christian. Jarrett went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and McCain went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

Helena Ingram went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, three RBIs and a run, and Rylie Ham went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run and an RBI.

Avery Steward allowed two hits with five strikeouts in four innings. She also went 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Steward allowed one hit with five strikeouts over three innings against JCA. She also went 1-for-1 with three runs.

Addie Word went 1-for-3 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs. Ingram went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, and Layla Ingram went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Kylie Bates went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run, and McCain had a double, a run and an RBI. Olivia Law went 2-for-2 with two runs.

Class 4A, Area 8

MUNFORD DOMINATES: Host Munford cruised through the area tournament Tuesday., beating Talladega 17-2 and Handley twice, 4-0 in the winners’ bracket final and 11-1 in the finals.

Munford (28-7-1) and Handley advanced to the South Central Regional on May 5-8 at Montgomery.

Tayla Marlow went 2-for-3 with three RBIs against Talladega.Kastin Lathem went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, and Ashtyn Bishop went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

Brooklyn Pressley went 1-for-1 with a home run, four runs and two RBIs.

Madison Arnold allowed one hit with eight strikeouts over four innings.

Pressley pitched a four-hitter with three strikeouts in seven innings in the first game against Handley. Lathem went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Chloe Pickette went 2-for–3 with a run.

Lathem swung the biggest bat in the finals, as well, homering and doubling while going 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs.

Raleigh Dew went 1-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run. Bayleigh Durham went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and Arnold went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Arnold also got the win, allowing three hits with three strikeouts in five innings.

Class 2A, Area 8

RANBURNE ADVANCES: Ranburne beat Vincent 14-11 and 9-3 and fell to host Southeastern 11-1 and 13-2. The Bulldogs and Southeastern advanced to the South Central Regional on May 5-8 in Montgomery.

Ranburne’s bats came through in both victories over Vincent. Autumn Lovvorn led the way in the first round, going 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, three RBIs and a run.

K.K. Rollins went 5-for-5 with a triple, four runs and one RBI, and Rylie Duke went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Rylann Graham added a 3-for-5 performance, and Shaylie Reaves went 2-for-4.

Jayla Stewart went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, and Aubie Rollins went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Graham went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run in the second game against Vincent, and Reaves went 1-for-4 with three RBIs. Lovvorn went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

Addison Gibbs pitched a four-hitter in the second victory over Vincent, striking out three batters.

Graham had a single and RBI in the first loss to Southeastern, and Duke had a single and RBI in the finals.
