Human Remains on I-20 Identified as Missing Man; Cleburne Sheriff Urges Mental Health Awareness

Missing Body

Cleburne County, AL — The Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office has officially confirmed that the human remains discovered on Interstate 20 on June 22, 2025, belong to Peter Alexander Robinson, a man who was reported missing from Austin, Texas in December 2022.

According to Sheriff Jon Daniel, evidence found at the scene initially suggested a possible connection to Robinson. Deputies later confirmed that Robinson had indeed been reported missing and that a vehicle he had been traveling in was towed from the same area of I-20 in January 2023.

The remains were sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science, which collaborated with the Jacksonville State University Center for Applied Forensics and other agencies to complete a thorough identification process. Both dental and DNA comparisons were used to confirm Robinson’s identity.

“We then notified family of the positive identification,” the Sheriff’s Office stated. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Peter Alexander Robinson during this incredibly difficult time.”

Authorities believe Robinson may have been experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of his disappearance. Sheriff Daniel emphasized the importance of mental health awareness, stating, “We want to take this moment to remind everyone that mental health struggles are real and can affect anyone. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out. Help is available.”

The Sheriff’s Office extended its gratitude to the many agencies involved in the investigation, including the Cleburne County Coroner’s Office, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama Department of Forensic Science, Austin Police Department, and the individual who initially reported the discovery.

Anyone in need of mental health support is encouraged to contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988 or visiting 988lifeline.org for 24/7 confidential support.
